ABRS Publications

New distributor for ABRS publications
As of Friday, 28 November 2008 ABRS publications will no longer be available through ABRS. We are currently negotiating with a new distributor and once awarded, contact details will be advertised here.
Any book orders received after the 28 November by ABRS, will not be processed by ABRS. Once contact details are advertised, you will need to submit your order through the new distributor’s website.
We expect that the new distributor will commence sales of ABRS publications shortly and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
A key part of ABRS’ activities is the publication, in a range of formats, of taxonomic and biogeographical information. These publications arise from research supported by ABRS, from targeted contracts for the development of information sources, and from manuscripts developed by others independently of ABRS and offered to us for publication.
ABRS publications fall into a number of categories:
Core series of books published by ABRS, either alone or in conjunction with CSIRO Publishing
- Algae of Australia
- Australian Flora and Fauna Series
- Fauna of Australia
- Flora of Australia
- Flora of Australia Supplementary Series
- Fungi of Australia
- Zoological Catalogue of Australia
One-off books published by ABRS, either alone or in conjunction with other organisations
Species Plantarum Flora of the WorldSubmission of manuscripts to ABRS for publication
ABRS is interested in considering for publication taxonomic works which fit within one of the above categories. To be accepted for publication by ABRS, manuscripts should meet most or all of the following criteria:
- They deliver taxonomic information or information that supports taxonomy;
- They are of suitable scientific and publishable standard;
- They require minimal editing or design work from ABRS;
- They should be available for appropriate inclusion or linking to the ABRS web site;
- They should be delivered in whatever format(s) best suits their subject matter (Internet, CD ROM, hard copy); and
- They are budget neutral - meaning that ABRS may invest upfront funds but there has to be an agreement that the programme eventually has these funds repaid through royalties. Prices and marketing strategies will be developed with this in mind.
Priority will be given to works which provide information on taxonomically neglected groups, important ecological groups, and groups of high conservation importance.
Please contact the officer responsible for the scientific group within ABRS.
